Other Regulators

This section is designed to direct you to material on our website which we think will be of particular interest to other regulators such as the Care Commission, Audit Scotland, Social Work Inspection Agency, Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator and the Housing Corporation.

You can use the search facility or the left hand menu to find other elements which are not listed here. If you would like us to include other information in this section or elsewhere in our website please contact us.

Register

We have statutory responsibility for registering social landlords as RSLs [see glossary], mainly referred to as ‘housing associations’. You can see the register to view the information we hold about them including their rules, accounts, allocations policies and basic statistics. You can search the register by RSL name, type or location.

Inspection

We are responsible for inspecting RSL and local authority housing services. You can see reports of completed inspections here.

Organisations to be inspected in the coming year are included in our inspection programme.

Assess risk

We undertake an annual risk assessment of each RSL and we make a decision based on that assessment as to how we will engage, if necessary, with the landlord. We publish the decisions emerging from that process Our Guide to How We Regulate explains our principles and approach.

Performance indicators

We publish indicators of RSLs’ performance in relation to housing management services – arrears, repairs and management of empty property. You can see the tables showing these indicators. You can download our annual review and analysis of the main trends.

If you wish to see comparable information about local authorities, please visit the Audit Scotland website. Audit Scotland has a role in determining performance information to be reported by local authorities. The reported indicators related to housing and homelessness are available here.

Policies

We publish our policies for regulating the sector under four headings: registration, regulation, inspection and intervention.

We also publish detailed guidance and standards which we expect RSLs to adhere to.

Memorandum of understanding

We have MoUs in place with the following organisations:

Consultations

We publish consultation papers, which may be relevant to the work of other regulators. We appreciate any comments you may have.
