Registration with the Scottish Housing Regulator

This section lists a selection of other bodies which may be useful sources of further information for organisations seeking registration with the Scottish Housing Regulator. There are other sources of information, including professional advisers, which you may be able to use and could be more appropriate.

Chartered Institute of Housing (or CIH)

This is the UK’s professional housing body. It publishes good practice, research and provides training across a range of housing issues.

Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (or CIPFA)

The professional body for accountants in the public sector. Publishes good practice on treasury management and related topics for RSLs.

Equality and Human Rights Commission

The commission champions equality and human rights for all. It produces good practice material and information useful to RSLs in meeting our registration requirements.

Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) (includes links to individual council websites)

COSLA, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, is the representative voice of Scottish local government and also acts as the employers’ association on behalf of all Scottish councils.

A specialist in employment advice, training and source of related good practice.

Financial Services Authority (or FSA)

From 1 December 2001 the FSA took over the functions of the Central Office of the former Registry of Friendly Societies and those of the Assistant Registrar for Scotland.

HM Revenue & Customs (or HMRC)

Formerly the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise. This agency has information on corporation tax and VAT.

National Housing Federation (or NHF)

This is the principal membership body for housing associations in England. It publishes a wide range of guidance and good practice which will be helpful to emerging RSLs.

The body responsible for regulation of charities in Scotland

Scottish Government

The Scottish Government site has information about housing legislation, access to key research and background to government policy.

Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (or SFHA)

The membership body for Scottish housing associations. The SFHA is a source of advice and good practice, including Raising Standards and model Rules.

Scottish Public Services Ombudsman

The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman provides an open, accountable and accessible public services complaints system
